   this is a very fun record which pleases both my jazz and classical taste buds. Cullen’s originals sparkle and the classical pieces just come alive…the quartet’s playing is extremely animated (perhaps stirred up by this great guitarist)…and the selection of material from vivaldi to Zawinal (Birdland) is eclectic to say the least.

   “Classical Jazz” is one of Cullen’s most eclectic mixes. Certainly, the quartet-accompanied renditions of the Cullen originals add to them a new flavor, but it is in the less common classical pieces that Cullen’s talent truly shines. This album showcases the breadth of Cullen’s talent–equally capable as classical master and jazz virtuoso. While my sole complaint is the “misleading” opening of the disc (I would not have positioned “Birdland” as track one), the album is a wonderful variation in the Cullen catalog. His playing shines.
