The event originally was co-sponsored by PokerStars and the World Poker Tour and began in 2004. In 2008, the event moved from the WPT to the European Poker Tour. The fifth annual event was held at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas from January 5-10, 2009 featuring a field of almost 1400 players.
