What would be a good day trip from St. John to the British Virgin Islands?

Can you answer wantsarevolution’s question about Caribbean?:

My family and I are staying on St. John, and we’re interested in taking a day trip to the British Virgin Islands (any of the three, Tortola, Virgin Gorda or Jost Van Dyke). Most of the ferries leave around 8:30am and get back no later than 5pm, so it has to be something we can do in one day. We are two adults and two college-aged kids. We enjoy sightseeing, snorkeling, beaches, etc. Any suggestion for which island to visit and some fun sites to visit?
NOT St. Thomas. Been there, done that.

Caribbean Feedback: Check out New Horizons and Breakaway. There owned by the same company but they take day trips over to the BVI! They’ll take you to the baths in Virgin Gorda Lunch at marina cay off of tortola, some beach time on jost van dyke at the famous soggy dollar! and a snorkel spot which you do in the morning! Im pretty sure they go over ta st john ta pick up but you might have ta take the ferry over ta stt ta get the boat! There is also Limnos but i would recommend that for family with young kids or older people! so New Horizons or breakaway (both do the same thing) would be perfect!! have fun! and fyi all BVI trip leave super early like around 730am and you wouldnt find any that leave much later!

Caribbean Feedback: I lived there for 3 years. Without a doubt, the best day trip in that region is called “the baths” at Virgin Gorda. It is an area where you can snorkel and walk through a series of rock formations that create little private “baths” with crystal clear water and sand at the bottom. It is amazing!!! There are many tours that will take you there. Or you could just take the ferry and a cab…have fun! Another option is to charter a boat and have the captain sail you to some private beaches for the best snorkeling of you life. They will also make you a great lunch and provide plenty of tropical drinks. Most boats will take only 6 passengers per day so you may get lucky and have the boat to yourself. Any concierge where you are staying can arrange this for you. It typically runs about $450-600/day for the boat including everything.
