Miami to Bimini – In July of 2010 we left Miami and crossed the Gulf Stream on 4 Sea Doos, arriving at South Bimini in the Bahamas (55 miles). Beauty ensued. All together there were 8 of us that made the trip and it was the adventure of a lifetime. This video is just small summary; With clear-blue water, jet boats, jet skis, good looking ladies, and 4 guys from Tampa Bay that love supercharged watercraft. We stayed on the island of South Bimini, at the Bimini Sands resort. The island put on a great fireworks displays to celebrate their “Independence Day” on July 11th. Sea Doos used: A 2008 RXT 215, an ‘08 RXP-X 255, and 2 ‘07 150 Speedster 215hp jet boats. Filmed with Kodak PlaySport in 720P at 60 fps

@dcman4usn Well…The RXP runs fast, but the RXT is probably better suited for a trip like this. As for tips; leave early in the morning, plan for at least two full days in Bimini, bring basic ski tools (we had a mechanical failure in the middle of the gulf stream), and carry an EPIRB or PLB.

How did the RXP handle? Would you take it again, or take a RXT instead?

Any other tips for planning my own trip? Thanks for the heads up on the customs fee.

@gman586 Yes, definitely need ID and Passport. Each vessel also has to pay a $150 customs fee upon arrival to the Bahamas.

  17. gman586 on March 26th, 2011 8:06 am

Do you need to carry your passports with you when doing something like this?

@mloureirojr Yes the “captain” of each vessel has to check-in with customs upon arrival. There is a $150 customs fee for each vessel entering the Bahamas. Passports are necessary. Depending on the hotel, they may or may not charge for dock fee. We stayed at the Bimini Sands resort, and did not have to pay the dock fee.
