@custno08 Not according to my family. They definitely do not see themselves as Han. And I do agree, most in Jamaica are mixed with African but many are not. In Jamaica, the newly arrived Chinese look physically different. The Jamaican Chinese tends to be taller with a more appealing body shape. And the Jamaican Chinese girls are drop dead gorgeous where as the newly arrived Chinese, from China are not.
@kwacou Dude!, Hakka are one of Han Chinese. Hakka population is more than 80 millions, a small ethnic group? They already mixed with Jamaicans and expose to sea, that’s why they are darker
that be the same with the irish and why are lot of us jamaicans have a lot of time for them especially as to waht happened to both of us during the 60s in england. i research alot about my parents country and the same thing happened with the irish slaves being taken by the english to their colonies as cheap labour and then having relationships with the locals.
I need to speak to that man who family from Hopewell we may be family.
@kwacou I agree with you 100 %
They are not of Han blood line
@Brainiac83 Jamaican Chinese are not Han Chinese which rep 90% of the pop. of China, they’re mostly from a small Chinese ethnic group known as Hakka. Hakka’s have a different phenotype (appearance) from the Han. They look more Thais like.
@Meriamen You don’t have a clue.The Chinese were not given any special treatment. The earliest came as indentured servants along with the Indians and they owned nothing.In fact the English made it illegal for Chinese men to bring women that why you find many mixed African/Chinese people in Jamaica.In fact you find many black people in Jamaica with Chinese last names because of a distant Chinese male ancestor who married a black women whose children then passed the name down through generations.
@Meriamen “Out of many, One People”
she looks more like Filipino than chinese.
THE MOST INTERESTING HISTORY ABOUT JAMAICAN CHINESE IS HOW THEY WERE GIVEN SPECIAL TREATMENT SINCE SLAVERY WHICH IS WHY THEY NOW OWN MOST OF THE ISLAND OF JAMAICA. LOOK UP THE 1834 LAWS IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME. THEY ARE PART OF THE CASTE SYSTEM, AND HAVE WORKED AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE ALONG WITH THE WHITE MAN. DO THE RESEARCH I DONT SEE THEM AS JAMAICANS
nice house! and it looks like a fun dinner
Chinese in Kowloon, mainly the New Territories were mainly Hakka Chinese who also speak a ‘bush’ dialect alongside the native Cantonese language. The Hakka Chinese were the ones who often migrated to different parts of the world like Brazil, UK and USA. I had family in the Caribbean Islands like Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana as well as Brazil who set up businesses.
